The experimental group was provided an exercise program applying the transtheoretical model. The data were collected from August 2001 to February 2002.

Results : 1) Of the stages of transition of exercise actions in the experimental group, the frequency of the action stage was highest directly after the experiment, and the frequency of the maintenance stage was highest 14 weeks after the experiment. In the control group, the frequency of the precontemplation stage was highest directly after the experiment and 14 weeks after the experiment. 2) The experimental group, in process of the transition of exercise actions, showed a significant increase in self-reevaluation, and showed a significant decrease in dramatic relief. The control group showed a significant increase in self-reevaluation and experiential category.
There were significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in dramatic relief.

Conclusion : The exercise program applying the transtheoretical model will be of great use as one of the meditation method of elders¢¥ exercise actions, because it promotes the stage of transition of exercise actions and the proportion of maintenance of exercise action. It is proposed that the proper meditation method should be developed in accordance with the stage of action transition.
